148-th Hanbayon tournament

Today was the day we have been waiting for since a month , the 148-th Hanbayon tourney :)
We arrived on time to the school in Sanbon which hosts Hanbayon tournament every month, as we took the private bus the dojang is renting for all the kids.

It seems like I got up from last month, so now I was in 7-th group again...:P (reminder: first Hanbayon I started at this group and went up to 6th group, and then fell down right to 8 :P)

When the tournament started I somehow got very nervous, what didn't happen to me on Hanbayon lately. I'm not sure if that's the reason but I lost my first two games right away.. -.- First one with 3.4 points, second already with resignation.

Javier on the other hand was doing really good, I was even joking with him that he should give me one of his wins because he already had two at lunchbreak :P

Lunch was the usual "box-food", this is also something the teachers buy for the kids so that they don't have to go to eat out :)

I don't know if it was thanks to the nice lunch or the first two losses were a big shock, but I saved the day by winning all 3 of my games after.. Javier also did quite good even if he lost two of his games after lunchbreak, because he also had 3 wins.. It seems he is more lucky then me though, because he will probably get back to group 2..

I don't have too good chances to advance up to Group 6, because after loosing my first games I probably didn't have too good SOS points .. -.-

Well, I guess there wasn't too much happening on this Hanbayon - my second last before I'm going home for the summer - but we had a lot of fun with the kids, I guess I finally start to get really good friends with them :)
Sorry for the boring posts, there is not much interesting in it but I was kinda happy that finally I had a positive result...~

New schedule, and crazy problems

Hello guys!

In the last two days there was some kind of holiday at the dojang, so on Monday and Tuesday we had to self-study whole days. I think it was pretty useful for both of us, as we could solve a big amount of life&death problems, and we also practiced quite some endgame with Brilliantly beautiful endgame problems 1 :) (more info about it on http://badukbooks.blogspot.com). In the evening we watched the BC Card final game with Cho Han-seung and Gu Li.. Unfortunately Cho Han-seung lost.. As there were no teachers, I felt a bit more free to take photos in the dojang, so I made a few.

Ke-bom, funny-face Je-hyeok, and Javier solving life&death together

Ke-bom

Oh, so this was the answer ^^

Baduk-TV

Today a new schedule was introduced at the dojang. I'm in B group, and Javier is in A group.
We also got a new Fuseki book (Javier got the first volume which covers: Mini-Chinese, and I got the 3-rd volume which covers shimari opening), which is published by the dojang.
The A group will have to learn 10 diagrams from this book every day (around 20 pages), and the B group will have to learn 5 diagrams per day. I feel a little relieved that finally I won't only solve life&death...
Concerning L&D, the A group has 4 pages, and the B group has 2 pages to solve everyday. There are also a number of pro games, but the teacher said we don't have to replay any. : /

Oh and btw I only have 8 pages to finish my Life&death book! That would mean in the last two months I solved more than 2000 problems ^^ For this happy occasion Javier and me both decorated our books with some stickers we get from the cookies we usually buy for breakfast ;P

Toobad nobody commented on my last post about Big Bong, I kinda thought it would be popular amoung those who read my blog... ;) Maybe professional players singing excites only me then .. O.o

Javier has some really crazy tesuji problems in his life&death book now. Here is one, if you have confidence, try solving it :) Good luck :)

Instead of Big Bang Big Bong.. Pro style

There is a video I've been wanting to share with you guys for a while now, especially for those who think of Korean professional players as some kind-of immortal wonderful creatures. Well sure they are, but when it comes to fun, and joking, they are just like any 20 or so year-old guy (maybe even worse -.-). Lee Ha-jin sabomnim showed me this video last december, it was filmed at - hopefully I'm right- the Korean Baduk League's closing ceremony.

It features 5 young professional players: Park Jeong-sang <3, Choi Cheol-han <3 (he is the rapper ;) , Ryu Dong-wan, Lee Won-do and Lee Jun-gyu.
First I only found a low-quality video, but it seemed to be quite a popular show by the guys, so the final video I'm posting is the whole attraction with an interview at the end (good for those who understand it :P)

You can watch the video by clicking -->here<--
And another video about how hard the guys practiced the dance by clicking -->here<--

And if by chance someone wouldn't know Big bang, here is the original version ^^

Pretty sick -.-

In the last few weeks I was very busy updating the online shop and of course studying, so I didn't have many time for the blog... -.-

Javier was ill for the last 2 weeks, he had a really bad cold so he stayed at home for some time. And on Friday when the weather finally got fine and he also felt better ... I got sick .. -.- I'm not really sure what it is, but not cold for sure. I guess next week I will have many time to update the blog if this keeps on like this..

I took out Friday from school to rest, but on Saturday we had to buy the books which were ordered from the shop the previous week, so there was no helping in it we had to go. We went to various shops including the biggest bookstore in Korea, and the baduk-shop (where it is said you can get every baduk book -.-) but there were lots of books we couldn't get either because there was none left to the end of the week or were out of print.

That's of course quite a big problem for us, even though we haven't accepted money from anybody yet... -.- So next week we will try to order them from the publisher, and if that doesn't work out either, then I might have to disappoint the people purchased from us ... :(

Anyways, after running around whole day I'm sure you can guess that I didn't feel better, only much worse... We solved some problems from Inspiration of Pro with Javier, but soon after went to bed.. It's Sunday afternoon now, but still not better even a bit .. -.-

Ok, one 2 star problem from Inspiration of Pro we solved yesterday from Chapter 5 (Attack):
White first, one move, Lee Chang-ho
When the opponent is weak, plain attack is needed.

April Fool's day

Today was a big day in KGS history, I believe everybody who experienced this miracle will remember it until the end of his life. Except maybe the real 9d players...
When I connected to KGS in the morning to take a look at my messages before hurrying to school, I almost dropped my coffee. That's what I've seen: (find the mistake on the photo game)

Woaaaaa....
